Beaches of Mardakan and Shuvalan: how to choose

Each seaside village on Absheron has its own sea. gives you the softest sand and shallowest water; offers paid resort beaches with deeper entry; Mardakan runs quiet family beaches. When you pick a house you're also picking your beach for the next ten years.

Mardakan

Four free and three paid beaches. City beach — sandy, gentle 30 m entry, lifeguards, toilets, 5–10 AZN sunbeds. «Botanika» — quietest, family-oriented, clean sand but no infrastructure.

Shuvalan

More premium club beaches: Amburan, Şüvəlan Park Beach, Jara Beach. Entry is sand-and-pebble, depth close to shore. Clubs charge 20–50 AZN including sunbeds and umbrellas.

The longest coastline and the best sand on Absheron. «Ovşan», «Ləmən», the town beach — all free, gentle entry, shallow up to 100 m. Ideal for toddlers.

If your child is 3–6, buy in: entry is the softest and the water stays shallow the longest. For teens and adults Shuvalan or suit better — depth close to shore lets you swim properly.

The seaside premium segment. Beach Resort — paid 30–50 AZN, clean sand, depth, an adult crowd. Much of the coastline is enclosed by hotels and estates.

What to avoid

• Algae-prone stretches — they bloom and smell in the heat.
• Areas near drainage outlets — even in calm weather you can see cloudy water.
• Sanatorium beaches — often require a pass even when technically «free».
