Mains gas and boiler for a dacha: what heating really costs in Mardakan winter

In summer everything is easy — the questions start when the December bill lands. On a Mardakan country house winter heating can cost 180 AZN a month, or 620. The gap is set by gas connection, boiler type and insulation. Real numbers and a 2026 checklist.

1. Mains gas — who has it in Mardakan

About 60–70% of Mardakan is connected to mains gas, but some old streets and new plots (south Shuvelan, north-east Bilgah) still are not. Before the deposit, ask the seller for the «Azeriqaz» account number and verify at e-gaz.az. A new connection in 2026 runs 3,500–8,000 AZN and takes 4-9 months.

2. Boiler types — wall vs floor

Wall boiler (Baxi, Ferroli, Bosch) — 24-32 kW, up to 200-300 m², price 950–1,800 AZN, install 350–700 AZN. Floor boiler — from 35 kW, more hot water, for houses 350 m²+, price 2,200–4,500 AZN. Energy class A or B — class C burns 40-90 AZN more over three winter months.

3. Real winter bill — four scenarios

Numbers for a 220 m² house: weak insulation + old boiler (class C) — Nov 220, Dec 480, Jan 620, Feb 540. Average insulation + class A — 140 / 280 / 340 / 300. Good insulation + heat recovery — 90 / 180 / 220 / 190. Underfloor + condensing boiler — 75 / 145 / 175 / 160.

4. Alternatives

For gas-less plots: electric boiler (18-24 kW) — install 1,200–2,400 AZN, but winter bill 2× higher. Ground-source heat pump — 4-6× more efficient, install 18,000–35,000 AZN. Diesel and pellet — you have to haul fuel, not economic. Convectors only as a temporary fix — for a 2-day summer visit.

5. Five pre-purchase checks

What to verify: 1) «Azeriqaz» account number and last 3 months' bills; 2) boiler manufacture year and warranty; 3) radiator count and thermostatic valves; 4) ventilation (any heat-recovery unit?); 5) roof insulation thickness — 100 mm basalt wool minimum.

4-month winter bill — 220 m² house

A boiler is not «equipment» — it's the operating system of the house. A 500 AZN cheap boiler burns 900 AZN extra every winter. The 1,300 AZN «saved» becomes 1,800 AZN lost in two years.

Five must-do steps before buying

• Check the «Azeriqaz» account — is it active in the database?
• Boiler manufacture year — don't buy older than 10 years (−20% efficiency).
• All radiators — thermostatic valves, per-room control.
• View in summer — traces of winter heating show on walls (damp).
• If a heat-recovery unit is installed — brand and year.
